Simple Life - Rapid Recovery

They have rebuilt to a livable level, but not yet a thriveable level.  They are eating roots and very tired of the lack of variety in the diet.  BUT they have already cleared, replanted, done much rebuilding, but have much more to do.  Many families are living in very temporary lean-to type places (they adapt better than most Americans would to that).

People are not put out because the water, electricity or sewers are out because they didn't exist in the first place.  There are no cars or roads, so roads washing out aren't a problem.  It seems many of our problems after Katrina were man made - our dependence on roads, cars, electricity, sewer systems, etc. have created our inability to tolerate a natural disaster.  Rather than being a "horrible day", Katrina became a disaster. Here, it seems more so that they had a horrible day and are moving forward to recover from it starting the day after.  It really is wonderful to see their lack of dependence or want/need for "stuff".  There are some definite perks to many "stuff", so I am not ready to renounce it all, but there is a balance between what they have here and what we have in the US that I think could make a happy medium.
